Let's Have a Fundraiser, she said!

From Kathryn Jurik regarding our Eat for the Street fundraiser:

We had so much fun and I took more pictures than I should have. I have struggled to meet the challenge to send you only 3 pictures. In these pictures, you will see the end of the day and a group of volunteers cheerfully waving from the Center parking lot. Another picture shows Allan Yeager with a thumbs up. I have so much gratitude to the staff of the Center who did all the behind-the-scenes set up for this event. Allan's thumbs-up is another happy summary of the day.

There is also a picture of the vegan dish. This is where I just couldn't decide what to send...vegan? stroganoff? chocolate cake? The event came about when we were in the kitchen at the Grange cooking and I said to Brenda and the rest of the Tuesday team that we should cook for the snack table in the social hall after the pandemic is over. So many people at the Center have supported our efforts and I thought it would be fun to give back.

Then Brenda said, "Let's have a fundraiser and do it now!" She offered to take the event to the Events Team and we got a proposal together. After a few clarifying questions and a map of our distribution plans, Eat FOR the Street was approved. We had a little negotiation about what to make for dessert. Everyone was happy with the meal choices, but the Tuesday team wanted Rice Krispie Treats and the Friday team wanted something more elegant. There were good arguments for both desserts, so we just made both. Judging from the comments we received, the consumers were pleased!

We had a lot of parking lot volunteers from the Center, SAVS, Homeless Action!, and Mike helped us direct in the back part of the lot. Everything came out so perfect. I planned a few extra meals and one or two people forgot to pick up their meals, so, all volunteers were able to take a meal. It was such a treat to be at the Center and wave and thank everyone who came through.

Maybe we can do something again sometime.

Love,
Kathryn

Science of Mind Archives Relocated and Reopened

I have wanted to visit Unity Village since I first became aware of it, and being at the opening celebration of the Science of Mind archives gave me a perfect opportunity to do that. I am in awe and appreciation for those who have gathered and found a way to preserve the teachings of Ernest Holmes in such a special place that I found Unity Village to be. At the celebration dinner, it was interesting to hear the presentations of those who spoke not only of the early days of Ernest Holmes but also of the Science of Mind magazine. Many of us no doubt remember our first introduction to Science of Mind, as I certainly do. For me, it was the Science of Mind magazine through which I then found the church. At the archive,s it was fun to be able to read and photograph the page from the Science of Mind magazine on the day I was born. How easy it is to take what we have for granted, and as I reflect with appreciation for the teaching and the preservation of the archives, I ask myself what am I doi...

COMING ON JULY 6 - JAIL MINISTRY RECOGNITION - Supporting Those Incarcerated in Sonoma County

The Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa (CSLSR) Jail Ministry is a team of dedicated volunteers who visit individuals incarcerated at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility (MADF) where approximately 700 people await trial or retrial. Many are confined to their cell 23 hours a day, sometimes for years. Each week, we visit those who request connection, offering compassionate presence and spiritual support. Through providing one-on-one and group visits, classes, inspirational books, and copies of Science of Mind Magazine, we help individuals reconnect with their inner divinity and wholeness.  Voices from Inside: “Your visit changed everything for me.” “You give us strength and calm. You show us a different path.” “I read a passage from The Mastery of Love every night—it helps me sleep.”   Want to Support the Ministry? 1. Pray for all those incarcerated in Sonoma County 2. Volunteer—join our team and help expand our reach 3. Donate—all funds go toward...
