What I Love About Being a Volunteer - Jerry Huffaker

 "From the very first time I stepped into the Sanctuary 24 years ago (the choir was wearing Hawaiian shirts and singing a Beach Boys song), I knew, right then, in my heart, that I had found my spiritual home. With CSLSR being such a wonderful and engaging home, I have always wanted to give back by volunteering. It is a wonderful way to meet others and to give back to our community. The Center has spiritually supported my wife Patricia and I, and I feel gratitude each time I volunteer."

    Jerry your heart has always been full of giving and caring. You opened up yourself to embrace others with freedom and kindness. That is what drew me into you I felt safe and cared for and loved by you and Pat during a time that I felt rudderless. Even though time and geography separated us we will always have the memories that were created through our friendship. Thank you again, you are a special person in my heart and life.

We have mentioned before that we are intending to gradually scale back on bookstore duties and eventually step down completely.  We are actively seeking people to help in the following areas: advertising, computer skills (Excel, Word), social media, graphic art (creative signage), special events, deep cleaning and the BIG ONE...retail management and retail buying skills.  Passing the baton Yes, we wish to pass on the management of the store to new volunteers, preferably a manager and assistant manager (or perhaps a management team).  In this store's management, the most important and time-consuming tasks are ordering product, input of product and managing the product.  We would train and continue to advise (if necessary) to ensure a smooth transition of leadership in the two basic areas of gift items and books.
